Description

Early 1800s American Coin Silver Fiddle Large Serving Ladle by P. Garrett Presented is a fine old American coin silver serving ladle. This piece dates to 1801-1828 and is by Phillip Garrett, a silversmith working in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The ladle is made in a handsome, classical Fiddle pattern, with fiddle-head shaped terminal to the handle and distinctive shoulders above the bowl. The bowl of the ladle is a good large size, making this suitable for serving soups, punch, or whatever else you like. The front of the handle has a monogram of JMD in elegant script. This piece is in excellent condition. There are no splits, no dents, no breaks, no monogram removals, and no repairs. This piece is stamped with the maker's mark of Phillip Garrett, a Philadelphia silversmith working from 1801-1828, when he incorporated with his son, Thomas Garrett, and changed his mark to reflect that. The ladle measures about 13 ½ inches long. This piece weighs 193 grams or 6.8 regular ounces. -jm Powered by SixBit's eCommerce Solution
